Workaway is an online community, where people post their profiles and match up with each other as either host or volunteer worker. The volunteer provides labour for up to five hours per day, and the host feeds and houses the volunteer. Many people travel the world via Workaway. Our neighbours have all used this means of obtaining much-needed help, with house renovations and on their land. It is a lovely way to meet interesting people who have useful skills, which range from teaching a language to re-wiring a house!
Today, Antoinne and Maude-Helene arrive. They are French-Canadian, in their mid- twenties, and keen to see the “real” Galicia. We have given them the best room, prepared yesterday by Sarah and our neighbour Josie, who is from Venezuela.
Antoinne and Maude-Helene will be helping to clear our land, and garden. Meanwhile I and Sarah will be supervising the window replacement, re-wiring, and installation of a new kitchen, in addition to purchasing plants, furniture, and building materials.
By the end of August, we will have met more international travellers in this tiny village than we did the entire time we lived in Sydney!
What a wonderful way to entertwine lives!
